Landscape Lighting: The Final Touch & A Smart Investment

We find it hard to envision a landscape remodel without incorporating an excellent lighting package. Since the majority of us are occupied during the day and engage in recreational activities at night, getting the lighting just right is essential. There are various ways to illuminate your front or back yards, so let’s explore some lighting options!

For many years, low voltage halogen lighting was the standard, but with rapid advancements in technology, LED has emerged as the future. LED, which stands for light-emitting diode, has become a cost-effective and durable alternative.  Despite an initial higher cost, the price of LED lighting has declined in recent years and is anticipated to continue its downward trend over time.

A variety of lighting fixtures are available, with many landscape lights being professional-grade fixtures from reputable companies. These fixtures are crafted to endure for years, emphasizing the idea that investing in quality yields lasting benefits. Operating a low-voltage lighting system is uncomplicated. Typically affixed to the exterior of a house, these transformers conveniently plug into a standard 110-volt outlet. They operate by reducing the power from 110 volts to 23 volts. Equipped with a timer, these transformers can be set to automatically turn the lights on and off. The installation of light wire to each fixture revitalizes the landscape, imparting a renewed and attractive appearance to your yard.

Professional-grade light fixtures are available in a variety of colors and styles, also known as spotlights, are designed to accentuate landscape features – as seen above. Spotlight lighting is our personal favorite form of landscape lighting! Path lights are typically used to illuminate walkways and areas when spotlights or wall lights may not be an option or provide the best aesthetic look or light arc. There’s another category which we refer to as inset lights. These lights can be installed in stair risers, under the cap of a seat wall, or beneath the bar top of an outdoor kitchen. We have been installing landscape lighting for over 30 years, and it has truly become an art form in itself.

With so many options available, we encourage you to consider incorporating lighting in your next landscape remodel. Lighting contributes to a distinctive ambiance, elevating the charm of any outdoor gathering. A well-lit yard not only enhances the atmosphere, but also provides a lasting element of security, deterring potential intruders.
